Diesen Freitag findet in der kleinen „a.p. Buchhandlung“ im Wedding eine Diskussion über Gossip auf Englisch statt. Ein Muss für alle Schreibenden und Literaturwissenschaftler*innen.

Gossip, conversationality, paranoia, and camp, argues cultural critic Gavin Butt, are affective lenses through which one can elucidate modern metropolitan living. Likewise, gossip can be viewed as the mode of communication that makes social life possible: constructing urgent connections between people, and cutting through insincerity.

Artist-writers Kristian Vistrup Madsen (Doing Time: essays on using people) and Sam Cottington (People Person) both explore the above, and how this relates to writing. During the course of “Between you and me” they will discuss their own and other authors’ use of gossip as a literary technique, read from their recent books, and of course dish the dirt with their audience about all things art world over a glass of wine.

Kristian is a writer and art critic published in magazines such as Artforum, Harpers, and The White Review. ‘Doing Time: Essays on Using People’ was published by Floating Opera Press in 2021.

Sam Cottington is a writer and artist. His work has been exhibited in Ginny on Frederick (London), Yaby (Madrid), Haus Wien (Vienna) and Artists self publish fair, ICA (London). His first novella “People Person” was published with JOAN in 2022. He is currently completing his studies at Frankfurt’s Städelschule.
