Open Call for Workshop: Urban Commons in Berlin
bi’bak with Istanbul-based initiative Herkes İçin Mimarlık (Architecture for All) are to explore urban commons in Berlin between 1 – 11 November 2018.
What is it about?
The workshop project POP UP / BLOW UP – Urban Commons in Berlin is dedicated to urban and architectural practices for the reconquest of public urban space. It focuses on urban commons, temporary architectural structures and daily practices through the cultural and non-commercial scene. 20 participants from Turkey and Germany will explore the possibilities of active citizenship through architectural strategies. During the last years, cities are in trouble with the real estate developments and gentrification processes. Free common space and public areas are getting increasingly limited and commercialized. This lack of free space for common use also affects daily life and practices. In the workshop we aim to find strategies for reclaiming the city through public interventions and practices to sustain them.
What will the participants do?
The ten-day WORKSHOP is divided into two sections: In the first part participants will visit groups and collectives concerned with alternative architecture and urban practices. The second part will include a design workshop for a pop-up cinema at bi’bak.
